Finding an efficient way to edit your photos can be tricky! There are many apps that claim to do it all, but very few actually do. Most of these powerful editing software have a feature that allows you to quickly fix exposure, color balance, and overall crispness in your pictures, but only within certain limitations.
The more advanced features are usually accessible via additional paid packages or by buying a separate license for the app’s toolset. This is mostly due to the fact that most people who use this software already own some of the tools themselves and want to test out how effective they work before investing in another version.
There are also times when a novice user may not need all of the professional level features, so those things become limited access resources for everyone. It is important to know what each app has so that you don’t waste money on something you won’t ever use. Thankfully, we have gathered some information here for you!
We will go over several free photo editing softwares as well as some small budget friendly ones, just like you would find at Walmart or Target. These are great starting points if you are new to digital photography and looking to improve your skills.
Adobe Lightroom

When looking at professional photography editing software, one of the top contenders is probably light room. Created by Adobe in 2012, this advanced photo editor has many features that are very popular. These include tools to edit your pictures in depth as well as basic functions.
Some of these features contain smarts that automate processes so you no longer have to do them manually. For example, it will detect if there is not enough contrast in an image and automatically fix it for you!
It also includes quick fixes such as color balance, sharpness, and tone settings which can be applied quickly and easily. All of these things may take you some time to learn how to use properly but light room makes it easy to get started.
There are two main versions of light room- classic and pro. The classic version is free while the pro costs around $100. I would suggest trying out the classic first to see if it works better for you or if the pro is needed.
Adobe Premiere Pro

With Adobe Premiere Pro, you can edit almost any type of media- including 1080p videos, 4K videos, and still images! You get all of the features that are needed to fully enhance your photos and videos, such as color adjustments, contrast tweaks, exposure changes, and more.
Premiere Pro is very versatile and has many settings that users can adjust to make their footage look even better. Some of these include basic ones like brightness, hue, and saturation, but some are slightly more advanced.
There are also several third party applications that work with Premiere Pro so that you can add additional effects or tools. These are mostly free apps that most people have already installed onto their computer, making it easy to install and use them.
Google’s new video editing app called YouTube Studio comes preloaded with Premiere Pro which makes sense since both companies are owned by Google. This gives you all of the same powerful features that you would normally pay for separately in Premier Pro, and much more.
Photoshop CS6

With Adobe’s recent release of Photoshop CC, they have made it possible to create your own personal photography editing software. You can either use their pre-made tools or make your own by creating plugins for them.
By creating your own editing toolset, you get full access to all of the features of Photoshop as well as advanced settings that professional photoshoppers have used for years.
There are many ways to develop your photo editing skills beyond just using these apps already available.
Photoshop CC

Having a camera with you at all times is not practical unless you have an ample amount of space to keep it in, or you are willing to invest in additional equipment!
That’s why professional photography editing software like Adobe Photoshop has become so popular. It gives you the chance to edit your photos without having to take them home and use a separate piece of software that costs even more.
There are several different ways to achieve this within Photoshop, and they are mostly focused on making pictures look their best. Some people begin by doing overall edits to the picture, such as brightening it or changing the color scheme, before diving into more specific things, such as correcting exposure or red-eye.
After these basics are done, users then continue onto other features, like retouching or compositing. These two feature groups work together to give the image a new layer of shine. Two common examples of composites include putting text over parts of the photo or creating a second photo using elements from the first.
These types of edits can seem intimidating for someone who is just starting out in photography, but don’t worry! There are many free resources available online that talk about how to do some of these things.
