Finding songs you listen to constantly can be tricky, especially if you are not familiar with all of the music streaming apps. Luckily, this article will teach you how to do just that!
It’s great being able to search for songs by song or artist but what happens when someone else has the same exact song? You may have heard them before and wanted to add it onto your playlist as well, but they already had so you couldn’t.
That is where repeat searching comes in handy. With a few tweaks, you can make your app (or web browser) create an endless loop of songs from one source. This way, you never run out of new music!
Repeat searches work by looking at a source channel (in our case, a specific musician or album), grabbing their most popular songs, and creating an extended playlist using those songs only. Then, any device connected to the internet can access that infinite playlist through the app or website.
There are many different ways to find repeats in online music stores and streaming services, so this article will go over some tricks to learn about them.
Choose a song
The next step is choosing a song! There are two ways to do this. You can choose a specific artist, or you can choose a genre.
If you want to learn more about music genres, check out our article here: 30 Best Music Theory Lessons.
By learning some of these theories, you will be able to get an idea of what songs belong to which genre. For instance, if you were looking for songs with a catchy bass line, then you could look into Dance music.
The second way to search for a repeat is by searching for a album. This way, it will pull up all the songs on that album.
Hit repeat
A way to find songs you have listened to before is by doing a search for your song followed by “hit replay.” This will pull up all of the different music videos, lyric covers, and feature reels that contain your song!
You can also do this with their artist pages. For example, if you loved listening to one of their tracks called ‘Something About You,’ then head over to their hit play page and tap the button that says ‘Add To Playlist.’”
This tool makes it very easy to discover new parts of an album or even just a part of an individual track! And since it is built into the app, you don’t need to go anywhere else to use it either.
Find the song you want to hear again
In the search bar, type your favorite part of the song or a word that sounds good in the rest of the song. Then hit enter!
You have now found yourself listening to the whole song! Or at least a piece of it!
This technique works because when you use the exact same keyword as before, the system recognizes this as an update for the song so it will play the matching section for you.
Try out this method with one of our track examples: “Something About Your Smile” by Ariana Grande.
Enjoy your playlist
After you have searched for songs that contain a specific word or phrase twice, it is time to enjoy your new found knowledge of music!
Finding similar tracks can be done in two ways: You can either look at all of the other songs that feature the same exact lyrics as the song you listened to before, or you can listen to the rest of the album the song comes from.
The second option seems tedious, but not every artist puts out bad albums. Some create really great stories that connect with listeners. Finding more about the artist is almost always possible, which gives you more information to learn.
And while some people may complain about how long an album takes to listen to throughly, most people start listening quickly. Even if you are very slow listener, you will probably find what you want within the first five minutes.
Make more playlists
The easiest way to find songs you like is to make your own! Creating an account-free music listening app or platform such as YouTube, Discovyr, or Spotify allows you to create playlist with all of their music, which you can then access and organize how you want.
By creating your own playlists, you get the flexibility to organize it how you want and use it for whatever purposes you need it for!
You can also add songs to these lists directly from the mobile device or computer using the appropriate software.
Take a break
After you have done an initial round of searching for songs that contain a specific word or phrase, it is time to take a break!
You can either start listening to another song, or just walk around and do something else while your brain recovers. It will take some time until it processes all the information it has gathered, so don’t worry too much about it right now.
When you return, check if there are any new tracks in the Discover tab or the Library tab.
Stay focused
A repeat set is not limited to listening to one song or artist for extended periods of time, it can also be searching for songs with exact lyrics or phrases that you have before changing the track or adding something new!
The most common way to do this is by using the search bar at the top of the app. By including all parts of the song in your search, you’ll get lots of results which you can then choose from to listen to the full length of the song!
This method works well if you know the first part of a song but are unable to find the rest. You could also use the word half of a lyric as a key part of your search instead of the whole thing.
Focus on improving your listening skills
A great way to learn how to search on repeat is to listen to lots of music, and do it regularly. You can even use this article as a starting point!
