A transceiver is a critical part of any radio-controlled vehicle (RCV). While most vehicles require a transmitter to send data about their condition and location, a receiver is also needed.
With the right transceiver, you can connect your vehicle’s power cable to a computer, smartphone, or other device to receive data. Or you can connect your vehicle’s antenna cable to an antenna system to receive data.
Today, we will talk about another important part of the RCV: the receiver.
USB-C
Another type of port is the USB-C. This is a charge-and-go standard that requires no power to function. It replaces both a standard USB port and an SD card slot in one fell swoop.
Many new smartphones have the USB-C interface as their main interface, making it an increasingly common connector. The latest MacBooks and iPads have this as the standard charge and connect feature.
On the computer side, there are now separate standards for digital audio and video connections. With very little difference in physical form factor, most devices use just one term for their connector: USB-C.
Some devices use a different connection called Displayport, which can only be used to display video on a device using this type of connector.
DisplayPort
Displayport is a high-speed data connection that allows you to send digital video and audio to a display device through the standard Standard Protocol for Data Exchanges.
This technology has become more widely used as new devices such as Google’s Pixel and Pixel Buds allow you to connect the devices via the display, creating a personal screen shared across your computer, laptop, or device.
Because this technology works so well and is common, most electronics manufacturers now include it in their new devices.
Some of the more popular devices that have displayport are the google pixel pones, samsungs galaxy s10s, apple watches. all of which have been recently released! Of course, none of these would work if connected to a computer or device without this port.
Thunderbolt
Another type of connector is called a Thunderbolt. This type of connector allows for both digital audio and digital video with a single connection.
This is very useful if you have an external storage device or projectors to use as a display. It also allows for quick and easy external daisy-chain connection to other equipment.
The downside to Thunderbolt connectors is that they do require an OS version higher than 5.0. Most Macs currently do not have such a version installed so the Thunderbolt adapter must be purchased separately.
DVI
A new and unique port type has been developed that allows for both digital audio and video with a single connector. This is known as a duble-side connection and it has become the standard for high-quality audio and video transfers today.
This type of port was developed when sound and video were sent together in a single signal. This connection was then split to send digital audio and digital video, making it extremely versatile.
It may look like a normal docking connector, but this plug has two connections made to: one for an electrical connector to connect to, and one for the audio/video connection. This is made possible due to a special process called differential signaling.
This allows for either signal to be transmitted, making it extremely flexible.
VGA
VGA is an old standard for video monitors and video to computer or television connection. These monitors typically send video to the computer or television via the standard VGA connection.
Many new computers have a built-in monitor that connects through the USB port and provides a VGA connection. Some newer desktop computers have a monitor installed as well as the computer, making this type of port transfer even more common.
The advantage of aVGA over HDMI is that it does not require a special cable being used to transmit audio and video. Whereas HDMI requires an adapter being used, having no difference in transferred images or sound with aVGA versus an HDMI connection.
HDMI connections can also be wired or wireless, making it possible to keep the same sized cable for either method.
Ethernet
Another type of port is the ethernet port. These are common in today’s computers, allowing you to connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse for computer viewing and control.
To connect a device to an external device such as a display or controller, you must use the ethernet port. This is another standard connection type used for networking devices.
Like the USB port, the ethernet port can be used for both incoming and outgoing connections. However, it can only receive small files at a time!
Most computers have an ethernet port so you should consider upgrading to a wired mouse and keyboard if you are not already. You will save yourself some trouble down the road as wireless connections lose signal quality over time or when you move.
Lightning
Another type of port is the lightning connector. These are typically found on higher end devices such as computers or televisions.
When connecting a device to your speaker or display, the lightning connector allows for both digital audio and video to be transmitted simultaneously. This is helpful for sharing music or media with others!
Additionally, due to the way it is connected, a device can also charge or power up using the lightning connector. Many phones even have a special charger built into the port which connects to a power source via an adapter.
USB-A
Another connector type is the USB-A. These connectors are a little bigger than the micro-USB, but are a similar technology. They are commonly found on new devices as a standard connector to upgrade to USB-C or older versions of USB.
These connectors can send digital audio and video, but not both at the same time. Only one media type can be sent at a time!
However, with some adapters, you can connect your bluetooth headset and charge your phone at the same time! This is an amazing feature that no other port can do.
