Following groups on Facebook is a great way to stay in the know about topics you are interested in. From sports teams to fan groups and niche interests, there is probably a group for it on Facebook.
However, with every good thing comes some bad. With groups on Facebook, the bad thing is that you can be added to a group without your consent.
This can be very awkward if it is a group you would not subscribe to voluntarily. Luckily, it is very easy to unsubscribe from a group on Facebook, so no worries!
Unfollowing a group on Facebook is easy enough to do, so please read onward for how to do so! If you would like to keep following an individual post from a group instead of the entire group itself, that section will be discussed as well.
Click on the three dots in the upper right corner
Once you’ve clicked on the three dots, a menu will appear. Click on ‘Unfollow Group’.
This will take you to the page where you can view all of the posts from this group. You can still like and comment on these posts, however, you cannot post yourself.
This is a great way to keep up with groups that you are interested in but do not want to add to your network. You can also just Unfollow the group if you do not want to see their posts anymore!
It is easy to Unfollow a group on Facebook, and doing so will not affect your account or account information in any way. You can still use all of the features of the app and site.

Choose “Leave Group”
If you find a group that you want to leave, you can do so by going to the group page, clicking “Join Group,” and choosing “Leave Group” at the bottom of the page.
This will take you to the login screen for Facebook. Here, you will need to log in with your account and then confirm that you want to leave the group. It is important to note that once you leave the group, you will no longer be part of any discussions or postings on the page.
Once you have confirmed your choice, you will be removed from the group and cannot re-join. There is no way to undo this action so make sure it is what you want!
If anyone attempts to post on your personal profile from the group, you will receive a notification informing you of this. You can choose to go to the group and remove yourself or leave it via a notification.
You will be asked to confirm your exit
Once you have finished unfollowing all of the groups you want to exit, you will need to confirm that you want to leave the group. You will be asked to do this in a few different ways.
Some groups will ask you to leave a comment or message confirming your exit. Others will have you click a link that takes you to the group homepage where you can confirm your exit by clicking a button.
Regardless of how it is asked for, it is an important step in the process. If you do not confirm your exit, you will remain in the group and continue to get notifications and content from the group.
Once you have confirmed your exit, you can re-confirm your membership if you change your mind and want to re-join the group. You cannot re-join unless you have left the group, so this is an important step.
Click “Leave Group” again
Once you have navigated to your Groups page, you will need to click the grey “Leave Group” button next to the group name. This will take you to a page where you can leave the group, with an option to leave group conversation.
If you choose to leave the group conversation, you will not be able to see the posts in the group or post in the group. You can only do this if you are an administrator of the group or have administrator access.
Once you leave a group, your account will no longer be associated with that group. Anyone who now clicks on your name in that group will be taken to your profile, but there will be no additional information about the group on it.
You have now unfollowed the group!
Following a group on Facebook is easy. All you need to do is search for the group you would like to follow, click the green Follow Group button, and then press the Follow button on the page that appears.

If you have trouble unfollowing a group, then try going to your Groups section and then clicking Edit in the top right corner. A drop-down menu will appear, click Unfollow Group and confirm your choice!
It can take a while for changes made to groups to appear on your feed. If you are still seeing posts from the group that you unfollowed, then check if there is a separate page for the group. You can like and follow this page instead to get rid of more posts from the group on your feed.
