Calculate the mass of the water displaced
When the water displaced is the weight of water, this is a simple way to calculate the mass of the lake or body of water. If the lake or body of water has a high density, then it will take more water to fill it up than one would think.
If you fill a very large container with a substance that is less dense than water, it will not hold as much liquid as an equal volume of water. This is why you may need more plastic baggies to cover up your open cup when drinking from a glass than milk because milk is less dense than coffee or tea.
When there is an equivalent volume of water for one piece of foam, then it has the same mass as one flat slab of styrofoam, with 32 kg (66 lb) of density. The displaced air causes this sheet to float on the liquid, so it looks like there is another piece floating on top.

The principle of Archimedes refers to the use of pumps, levers, and other complex devices to change water into ice. This principle is very useful in designing floatation systems.
When designing a floatation system, you must use the Archimedes’ principle to create enough space inside your buoy to achieve adequate submerged space. This is accomplished by using two floating slabs of foam, one dense and one light.
When one slab is submerged, it creates required pressure inside the buoy to maintain frosty coldness. When the second slab is removed, it Floats! Using Archimedes’ principle will help you create the right amount of pressure in your buoy.
Do not expect this principle to work for everyone, as some people have different pressures within their floats.
