It seems like every day there is an article or video that goes into great detail about how to do something new with your smartphone. More often than not, these tips are geared more towards the technologically savvy audience only, as most people can easily identify some of the features already.
If you’re one of those who fell in love at first sight with your phone’s many features, then you probably know what some of them are already. You may have even made use of some of them!
But if you just now stumbled upon some of them, don’t feel too discouraged. There’s still hope for you! Read on to learn all about them!
We will go over several easy ways to access old notifications on your iPhone, which will hopefully make it much easier to get back the hang of it. Check out below!
What are old notifications?
By definition, a notification is someone telling you something important. In this case, it’s someone letting you know that you had an email, text message, or call come in.
Sort by date
The way to view your old notifications is to sort them by when they occurred, then scan from the beginning.
This can be done in two ways: using time or via notification.
You will have to scroll down slightly to see all of the notifications, but at least you’ll know what happened!
The second option is to open up the Notification Center directly so you don’t need to go through the iOS app to access it. Just press and hold the button beside the clock for several seconds until the menu comes up. Then choose “Open Menu (iOS 6) or “Notification Settings (iOS 5 and before).
Look for important notifications
It is possible that you have deleted an app, but there are still old notifications in the system. You can access these by going through your notification drop-down menu or via the Settings app.
To look through all of your notifications, go into the Settings app and then tap Messages, Calls, or something similar. Then, under Recent Apps, you can scroll down and view all of the apps you recently opened.
You may also want to check under Notification Channels, such as Facebook or Gmail, to see if any messages were left behind.
Delete old notifications
If you no longer want to see a notification, you can delete it! To do this, simply tap on the notification, then either “View” or “Dismiss” depending on whether you wanted to read the message or not, and then press the button that says something like “Clear All” or “Keep All”.
You will still have all of your other messages in Messages, but none outside of it will disappear unless you manually edit them.
This is very helpful if you accidentally click the wrong thing and open an unrelated app instead of looking at the past notifications.
Stay tuned for new notifications
It is possible that you have received an old notification now, or even no longer receive any notifications at all. As we mentioned before, older notifications get archived in the cloud as well as your phone!
If this has happened, don’t worry about losing them completely-you can access these past notifications from anywhere!
By accessing your old notifications via iCloud or the web, you will be able to see what was happening back then. All of your device settings and information will remain intact and private.
To check out your old notifications, simply log into your account online or through the iOS Settings app. When there, make sure Notification Channels are turned on.
Check your phone for updates
If you accidentally clear all of your notifications, you can check your iPhone to see if it automatically updated or not. You may also notice that some apps have been mysteriously deleted as well!
To make sure everything is working properly, back up your data before checking for update.
You can do this by going into Settings > General > Backup and Restore. Then, choose iCloud backup and confirm that it has been done.
Once complete, go into Settings > Update Status and make sure it says “Check For Updates”
Press the refresh button to start the process.
Update your phone software
The first thing you want to do is make sure that you have the most up-to-date version of iOS. This means doing a full update by downloading the latest firmware files through an official channel or via third party sites such as Apple Developer Connection.
After updating, it may take some time for all notifications to refresh which can be frustrating at times!
It’s best to let the device sync completely before trying to access old notification settings, this way you will see everything clearly. To avoid any glitches, always back up your data using a good tool before making major changes.
You should also try resetting your iPhone (Settings > General > Reset) to remove any cached information. When done correctly, these steps will give you a clean start and help restore the lost configuration.
Update your Iphone
When you first get an iPhone, you are automatically prompted to update your phone software. This is very important as most of the features in the operating system and apps come from new updates that have been integrated into the device.
If you don’t upgrade your software, then some of the features will not work properly! For example, if you had an app last year that has feature X, it may no longer work this year because the developers didn’t include feature X in the old version.
By default, the iPhone prompts you to update every six months or so unless you tell it otherwise. It can be hard to remember this schedule when your phone is constantly telling you about all of the cool things it does.

It is easy to see what Apple releases by going onto their website. Just go to apple.com/updates and you will see all current firmware versions and information about them. Make sure to refresh the page to make sure the info is up-to-date.
This way, you won’t need to spend hours looking through each app store to find out what versions exist.
Re-enter your passcode
If you cannot access your old notifications or view past events, then enter your device’s password (if it has one). Your phone will ask for your password when you open the app that can sometimes take some time depending on how many apps have been closed in the past.
