Recent reports indicate that some people are experiencing issues logging into your Facebook account via mobile device or computer. It has been noted that you do not receive the login code when asked to verify your identity, nor does it ask for any additional information such as birthdate, etc.
If this sounds familiar, it should! Because of these symptoms, many have concluded that someone else is logged into your Facebook account without permission.
The source most often cited for this theory is that there was a recent activity on your profile that didn’t look quite right. For example, changing your username or adding an adult-themed picture.
There have also been stories of users being unable to access certain features of the site, like creating an event or posting a comment. And finally, there are tales of someone accessing another user’s account and finding nothing but a password reminder prompt.
This article will discuss what can be done if you are experiencing authentication problems on Facebook and how to fix them.
Your Facebook account was hacked
It has been several days since you last logged into your own personal or business Facebook account. You try to log in and it says that you do not have login permission? What does this mean?
It can be tricky trying to figure out what is going on with your account. One of the first things people usually check when they cannot access their accounts are security settings.
You may find that you are being redirected off of Facebook onto another site because there’s suspicion that your computer or phone has been compromised. This could be due to someone hacking your email, which then allows them entry into your other social media accounts.
If this happens, then you will need to change your passwords for all of these accounts as well. Unfortunately, you probably already provided your username and password during the authentication process, so changing those would not help you at this stage.
What should you do next?
We recommend doing the following two-step verification process to ensure that no one else can access your account until you get it fixed:
Step 1 – Create a new secure password using our easy guide here. Make sure to use strong, unique passcodes for every website including yours!
Step 2 – Add your newly created secure password to your smartphone via Google Authenticator or any similar app. Then, add your old password (the one you were using before) as an additional code.
Your Facebook account was compromised due to a security breach
Sometimes, before you can use your computer or smartphone again, you have to go through a process of removing credentials for the device. This is because someone may have accessed your accounts by using their own login information instead of yours.
If this happens, you will not be able to log into your old accounts using your original password. Instead, Facebook will ask you to create a new one!
This goes beyond just having access to an email account. Because of how closely linked many of its services are, like Instagram and WhatsApp, people may have been able to steal your personal data from those apps too if they were logged in with their own account.
We’ve put together some steps that should help you get back into your account and prevent anyone else from logging in while you wait. It is very important to take note of these step by step as we unfortunately cannot do it for you.
Your account was reset due to a password reset
If you are unable to login to your account using either your email or username, it is possible that your account has been reset due to a failed password verification!
A member of our team will be in touch with you soon to help get your account back up and running. We’ll also let you know what you can do next.
You should check your messages and emails for an email from us telling you that your account has been reset and asking you to verify your identity.
If this happens, don’t try and log into your account via another device or computer – instead use the one that was used to set your new password. It may ask you to prove who you are by verifying another source like Paypal, Amazon, or Gmail.

You mistyped your password
Sometimes, even after you have tried every possible way to login to your account, you will get an error saying that you did not receive a code for authentication or that you entered incorrect credentials. This can be tricky as there may be some sort of delay in getting this message!
It is very important to check your phone number and email accounts as it is sometimes users who are inactive remove them from social media sites. Make sure these are active and working!
You may also be sent a verification code via text message, voice call, or both. If you do not see anything when checking your voicemail or texts, you may need to contact whoever set up your phone numbers with facebook to make sure they are still able to send messages.
Your account was locked
Sometimes, users will run into issues where they cannot login to their accounts due to missing or invalid authentication codes.
This is usually caused by you deleting your access token or using incorrect credentials to re-authenticate. If this happens, you won’t be able to log in until you get yourself back together!
It’s important to note that even if you can’t remember your password, it isn’t necessarily yours.
A third party app may have saved it for you, so trying to reset your own passwords wouldn’t work unless you can locate this information.
If someone else has your username and email, they could create an account with your profile and take over all of your belongings. This is why making sure your accounts are private and not connected to other sites is very important.
You tried to login to your account and you get the “not receiving login code” error
This can be due to many things, most likely is something wrong with their internet connection or computer. If you are able to log into other websites using the same browser and device, then it is probably better to use another website for now!
If you still run into issues, try resetting your password. Click on this link to do that -> https://www.facebook.com/help/76977856878128/?ref=mb#!/accounts/reset-access-token?ref=slogin_cancel
This will clear out any access tokens and create new ones, letting you back in properly.
Your Facebook account has not been activated yet
It is possible that you have received an activation code, but your phone cannot connect to the internet or sync with your device. If this happens, then you will need to activate your account directly from Facebook.
You can go into Settings > Account and choose Activate using Facebook as a last resort if you are unable to login via Phone/Web.
Wait for a few minutes and try logging in again
If you are still getting the error message when trying to login, then it is time to give up! This article does not apply if you just closed your browser or computer and reopened them.
If this has happened before, re-open your browser or device and go through the process of signing into facebook as normal. Then, try logging back into the app using the mobile phone or tablet version of the site.
This may take some attempts to work, but there is a chance that it will eventually log you in. It could be because someone else used the same account at one point and logged out successfully, so their access code was removed. Or maybe they changed their password and thus the authentication failed.
Any of these would require you to have either no longer have access to the original access token, or to reset your password which requires you to provide an email address.
