Comment bots are software programs that automatically leave comments on websites using information from other sites or databases. These comment bots can be programmed to do a variety of things, such as leaving positive comments, negative comments, promoting a website or product, spam, etc.
As websites become more and more aware of the potential harm that comment bots can cause, they are developing new software and updating their old software to detect them. As a result, more and more bots are being flagged and disabled every day.
The problem with these Comment Bots is that they can leave thousands of fake comments in a short amount of time. This floods the website with fake information which then has to be sorted through by the site administrator. It also may give the false impression that there is greater support or opposition for an issue than actually exists.
These Comment Bots have become so prevalent that some sites have decided to completely ban all automated comments due to the overwhelming amount of false information that would be posted.
Comments help you learn what your audience thinks
Even if no one sees the comments, you can still add them to your blog. You can read them whenever you want and get some insight into what your audience thinks.
Comments are a way for your audience to share their thoughts. You can ask questions in your comments section that help you gain more insight into what your audience thinks.
Commenting on other blogs is another way to find out what people think about your topics. You can leave helpful comments or make intro remarks that highlight what you think about the post.
By getting more people involved in your content, you are also spreading the word about your blog. People will start to check out your posts if they find value in yours or in comments they leave. This will increase traffic to your site which helps grow business.
Unfortunately, not all comments make it to the site
Although this feature has been around for several years, not all users are aware of it. Many users have complained about comments being deleted, but this could be due to other reasons, such as spam.
As with any social platform, the team that runs Instagram has to figure out how to balance user freedom and safety. As with any social media platform, people have reported incidents of bullying, harassment, and self-harm alerts being posted on the site.
In order to prevent this and further endanger people, Instagram has put in place rules and filters to screen out inappropriate content. Comments can be screened if they contain URLs or personal information such as a phone number or address.
However, if your comment is innocent and does not contain any of these things but still gets screened out, there isn’t much you can do about it.
Here are some reasons your comment was rejected
Comments that are discriminatory or hurtful will be removed. This includes comments that are discriminatory against gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, race, age, or disability.
Comments that are abusive will be removed. This includes comments that are abusive to people, organizations, or individuals’ property.
Comments with unauthorized copyrighted material (such as articles, videos, images etc.) will be removed.
Spam comments will be removed. Spam is either advertising for a website or organization or is irrelevant content.
If your comment does not follow these guidelines, it may be rejected. Repeatedly posting inappropriate comments may result in being banned from the site.
Check your spelling and grammar
Comments that are filled with spelling errors and poor grammar look unprofessional. Plus, it is very obvious when someone attempts to post a comment with a fake name or anonymous account due to poor grammar.
Users can report other users for abuse and harassment via comments, so leaving a comment with aggressive language or insults can lead to repercussions.
It is best to be professional and polite in all of your comments, even if you are posting under an anonymous account. You never know who may be reading your comments or who may be affected by them.
When posting your comments, take some time to check your spelling and grammar. Use the spell check feature on your device or computer and fix any errors that appear. This will help prevent people from commenting back with corrections, which looks unprofessional as well.
Sorry, your comment could not be added at this time. Please try again later.
Avoid being overly hostile or provocative
While comments are supposed to be a place for people to share their thoughts, opinions, and questions, too many can make a post too long.
Too many comments can also be overwhelming and create a hostile environment. People should feel comfortable reading every post and comment, but also feeling like they have a safe space to respond.
As the website states, “Posts with hundreds of comments may be removed if they no longer represent what Conscience Magazine is all about.”
Too much negativity or hostility will not be tolerated on the site, which is a good thing. You want to make people feel welcome and secure so they stay engaged with the site.
Commenting is a way to get involved on the site, but it is not the only way. Everyone is encouraged to share their own posts on their own social media accounts to promote the site as a whole.
Stay on topic
Comments that stray from the topic of the article can be interesting, but only if the topic of the article is interesting. If the article is about how cats are superior to dogs, a comment about how dogs are better is a good addition.
Otherwise, sticking to the point of the article is best. If the article is about how to do something, no need to mention why you don’t like it or how you do it differently. That just confuses people.
If you have a very strong opinion on something related to the article, maybe add a paragraph or two explaining your perspective, but don’t go into great detail or you will be forcing people to read too much off topic information.
And as a general rule: if you have to ask yourself if what you’re writing is on topic or not, it probably isn’t.
Keep your comment short
Comments that are too long look unprofessional. You do not want to fill people’s screens with text when they arrive on your profile. People want to read what you have to say, not try to navigate your long comment!
This is especially important if you are responding to a long post. Keep your response short so that your points are clear and you do not come off as mean or aggressive.
People who make long comments probably get very little attention, so make yours memorable instead. Your effort will pay off!
If you have a lot to say, put your comment down in writing instead of posting it immediately. Wait a few hours or days and then post it along with your name. That way people will recognize you and pay attention to what you have to say.
Include your name and email address
When you create an account to post on any of the above sites, make sure to include your name and email address. This is so other users can figure out who posted what content and send you notifications if someone quotes or mentions you.
It also makes it easier for people to find you outside of the app. Since WhatsApp now has a separate app for private chat groups, having an account username helps people find your group.
Having an account also makes it easy for other users to find and follow you on the app- although this may not matter much since WhatsApp will soon be testing a new business solution.
The ability to include your name and email address is one way to take steps toward being more professional on these apps. Another way is to create an account that represents your brand, like how McDonald’s does.
