The next sweet fruit you’ll learn about is rambutan, also known as Indian apple or Chinese plum. These fruits are distinguished by their unique taste that some describe as tasting like lychee with a stronger sour flavor.
They grow in clusters of up to 20 individual fruits which come together when ripe to form one large ball-shaped piece. This process is called gelling. When they are fresh, each rambutan will slightly crunch under your teeth.
When they’re dried, however, they become quite hard and delicious! They can be eaten alone, but they pair well with other foods such as chocolate or vanilla.
There are several ways to eat a rambutan. You can either remove the skin and eat the flesh raw like an apple, or dry the rambutans and toast them for snacks or dessert.
