In case you are receiving an email that cannot be sent, then this may be due to a malfunctioning mail() function.
The mail() function can send emails on your computer, as well as on mobile devices. If it does not, then you may have to use the built-in email program on your computer or device.
This function can also add a custom signature to the email, so if someone asks for the email address they will see that signature.
If the signature is missing, then people will probably assume that the person who sent the email did not know how to create an automated signature and sent it without one.
The problem could be that people who received the unreturned email do not know what kind of message they received or did not receive, and/or respond to it. This could lead to problems for those recipients.
Host not configured for email
If you receive a message that cannot be sent, it may be because your host does not support sending email. You can check your host’s website to see if they have implemented the mail() function.
If you do find a website that supports email, play around with it to see if you can send an email. Some hosts may require you to register first, so try that first.

PHP not configured for email
If you receive an error message when you try to send an email using php, your host may have disabled the mail() function. This can be a potential problem.
To use the mail() function, you must set it up as the default function. You must also specify the correct address to which to send the email.
You can do both in php_draftsendmail(). Set up your php_draftsendmail object by specifying your server’semailaddress and then sending an email with register_defaults() and point_smtp ().
Saving these settings in two places might seem like a big jump, but it is important to do this so that they take effect immediately after sending the email.
Configure PHP for email
If you are having trouble with your email, then try the last step. We mentioned above that your host may have disabled the mail() function.
Configure host for email
If your host does not offer the email function, you can configure your host to communicate with emails.com. You can do this by using their webmail provider, or by setting up a server in your office or site to send emails.
Using a webmail provider like Gmail is usually easiest, as it is most familiar. If you have a dedicated email account at your server-sharing server, then creating an account there is also easy.
You will need to set up an API key for the webmail provider, which you can generate in their website or through their app. You will need to enter this into the mail() function, as well as the correct URL for your account.
Check whether the from address is valid
If your host has created a valid email address, then you are all set! If not, then make sure that the from address is correct.
Many hosts create a dummy email account called from_email_address_com where the actual email address is not used. This way, you do not have to remember an exact from address, and it can help with spam prevention.
From_email_address_com can be a good indicator of a fake email account as well. Look for an @ symbol instead of the usual name, and try to determine whether or not the account has received any emails. If so, it is possible that someone sent you an email but your host disabled the account because of spam or phishing!
Bullet point ended and we moved on, right? Right! If your host has created an invalid FROM address or if an existing user’s account does not match the domain name used to sign up, then check the validity of your recipient’s addresses.
Verify the recipient addresses are valid
Make sure that the addresses you are sending the email to are valid. You can do this through the web interface or by verifying the email address is a valid address.
There may be a feature in your mail application that allows you to verify an address and confirm it as valid. If not, make sure to check out our article on how to do this!
If your recipient does not respond to a second time, there may be an issue with their mail application. Try another email service or device next time!

Is sendmail installed and working?
If you are receiving an error message like the following, your host may have disabled the sendmail command.

Then you must make sure that the sendmail command is installed and working on your server. You can verify this by sending a plain-text email to yourself using the SMTP protocol, and receiving a valid email in response.
If you do not have access to the internet or a computer at your own home, you can try downloading and running sendmail from your server. Try running it for several hours to make sure it works, as it may take some time for it to catch up with the mail().
