The Power Of Saying No: How To Set Boundaries And Protect Your Energy

A few weeks ago, I had a client come to me with a disturbing question.

“Can you explain what the angelic consciousness is and how it can change your life?”

Yes, this client answered, she could. She can read books and access the Internet on the subject. She just did not realize what it meant to be aligned with an energy source.

She was curious about what it would look like to be in alignment with an energy source and she wanted to know if she needed help in doing this. Could she imagine herself falling into patterns that were not appropriate?

I paused for a second before answering her question. This was too important of a topic to just answer yes or no to at this point. There are so many details to tell and stories to share around this new awareness of our selves as energy beings. It is so important that we continue to evolve and learn new things as we get older so that we can protect our health and well-being in our everyday lives.

What are you doing that is not worth your time?

There are two things that no one should ever do for another person: give away your money and help someone else get what they want in life.

As hard as it can be, choices you make in life aren’t about money. You choose to live this life now, not some other time.

Your time is now, and someone else may be choosing to spend their lives in another way than you want them to.

If you offer help or service or anything that goes beyond that, then you are essentially giving away your energy. You are using your energy to help others achieve their goals, but they are not using you to achieve theirs!

You can only use a part of your energy system – your mental and emotional – when we’re talking about how to protect our inner childs and sets.

Who are you spending time with that is draining you?

If you’re spending too much time with someone, it’s time to end the relationship. If you are being taken advantage of by someone, it’s time to call out that behavior.

If you are being harmed by someone, it’s time to cut that person off and find another person who makes you feel good.

If you are being hurt by a person, it’s time to find another place to live and work, because this person is not going to make you feel good.

Your energy can get drained when you spend too much time with certain people or places. When you take care of yourself and your needs, your energy returns quickly.

You can protect your energy by saying no often and putting boundaries in place.

What are your personal boundaries?

At the beginning of every month, look back on what you did and how you handled relationships and events in the past. What names did you give to those things?

Was there a specific answer you could use to ask for what you wanted? Or was it always just a yes or no?

If you go out with your best friend and she asks if she can go swimming, there is a clear answer to yes or no. You don’t need to think about it or give it out, but there definitely has to be an answer when the yes is no is the only one.

There are many things that we put up with because we don’t want to hear no, or we feel that something is not good enough for us. We fool ourselves into thinking that we are making choices that are right for us, but in the end, it is our decision to make.

When I first started dating my husband, I was hesitant to say no even when I didn’t understand what he was asking me. I thought that if I said yes, then he would respect my decision and move forward. After a while of him trying to push my limits and me saying no, we finally parted ways because of his behavior.

Can you say no to anyone?

At the beginning of this article, we talked about how important it is to say yes sometimes. It opens up options for you, allows you to be creative and to step out of your comfort zone and into another person’s energy.

But what if you can’t say no? What if you have to have something in your energy nowadays? What if you have to get things done in a fast-forwarded way?

Well, there are two ways of saying no. You can say no with joy, with lightness, with non-confrontation, with an inner voice that says no. Or you can say yes with anger, bitterness, fear, desperation, or without any other reasons.

When we give in to the demands of our mind and body when it comes to getting things done in a non-consistent way, we lose our power over them. We end up relying on others and ourselves too much. We end up overusing our energy and resources. We end up exhausted and depressed later on.

Are you overcommitted?

When is too much is too much? Is there a limit to how much you should be spending, what you should be spending your money on, and what type of spending you should be doing?

These questions are hard to answer and discuss without being somewhat annoying. You’re being asked to give up your personal choices and preferences for someone else’s needs. You know better!

There is no right or wrong way to spend your money. Every budget has a point where it reaches its limit. What if there was a way to avoid these “too much” feelings while still allowing you freedom to live your life?

There are many ways to set boundaries with others. This article will talk about two of the most common ways to protect our energy Watergate: the No Billing rule, and the No Re-Billing rule.

How are you going to implement saying no into your life?

Now that you’re more familiar with the power of saying no, the next step is to learn how to say yes.

There are two parts to learning how to say yes and no. The first part is in forming your phrases for asking for things.

Are you using words like “would” or “going to”, or just plainer sentences like “I’d love it if we went there next time” or just “yes, I would love that”?

The second part is in using the right attitude when giving yourself a yes. You want your friend to feel appreciated and happy with themselves for saying yes, but also to take steps towards making the change into a Yes Self.

Be clear and direct

We are all entitled to our own thoughts, feelings, and experience. You don’t have to listen to anyone else’s thoughts or feel what others do. We are our own energy paving the way for what we want in life.

That’s why it’s important to be so clear and direct with yourself and with others. It takes a lot of courage and faith, but it will make a big difference in how hard you get through life’s experiences.

When you say no to things, be very clear that you do not want this thing, people can see that no one wants this thing, and it is manifesting as negative energy in your life. Be strong!

Be honest about issues but do not run out of steam or get distracted by them anymore.

Use “I” statements

When you refuse something, you’re giving your energy to another person or thing. You’re saying no to a step in your life, a opportunity, an emotion, or any other thing that doesn’t suit you.

You’re taking a step back and preserving your individuality. It’s important to have the ability to say no when necessary.

Have a list of non-consequentialaneous words that can be used when refusing an offer is necessary. For example, you can say: I cannot allow this; it won’t work out; it will make me look ungrateful; and it will affect my life the way it will turn out.

Using these statements can help protect your energy while refusing something doesn’t fit with you.
