Sometimes, a computer or a device cannot find an archive you have stored on it. Or it runs out of space to store it. Or you have made some archives inaccessible.
In this case, you can run Apt-get or try with –fix-missing? to fix the issue.
Apt-get is a Linux command-line tool that can obtain and install packages from several package management systems including Ubuntu Software App Installer, Synaptic, and the Atomic App Store. It does not support Windows but you can run it on Windows through the use of Cygwin.
–fix-missing? can be used if Apt-get does not work for you. It will force Apt to reacquire packages and update their metadata which may fix the issue of some archives being inaccessible.
However, this also means they tend to be quite conservative when it comes to updating packages
This is probably because most Ancestry packages have a limited number of updates that they’ll provide, and if something new comes out that benefits them too, they’ll approve it.
Ancestry has had a few updates recently, but not all that many. It would be hard for them to keep everyone updated as consistently as newer packages, especially with so many different clients offering different things.
Plus, with the amount of legacy Ancestry software they have hanging out there, it might be pretty hard to clean up and update completely. If someone needed something from those files, it might not be possible!
This is probably why legacy Ancestry software tends to be quite conservative when it comes to updating packages.
This can be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective
If you are having trouble fetching some of your ancillary documents, you might want to try the –Fix-Missing? command.
This command will attempt to fix any problems that may occur when attempting to retrieve missing or outdated documents. It can be used multiple times, so don’t throw it away after the second time!
With this command, you can for example add a note about when the document should be added back into your system. This is very useful if you need to rely on this document in the future for something.
Try it out! If you have more questions about how to use this command, feel free to add them in the comments below.
If you need the latest package versions, Ubuntu may be a better fit for you
If you need the latest package versions, you can try running the following command in your terminal:
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
Or if you want to try to run the updates and/or the new packages without having to do a full upgrade, you can try using the apt-get or Ubuntu’s –fix-missing option. (If you do not have this option, then you can try running the updates using some combination of Update Command and Run Package Command.)
–fix-missing works when updating packages and runs any required scripts before the update process starts. However, if you need new packages on a timely basis, then running –fix-missing is not an option due to the length of time it takes for it to complete.
Sometimes we want to install certain packages using the command line in Debian or any of its derivatives
When you want to install one of these packages but you cannot fetch the archives because your computer is not configured to do so, you can use the command line.
Using the apt-get commands, you can install and manage packages. The command line will not give you an error message if something goes wrong, it will simply finish and tell you that it was successful.
The easiest way to do this is by using the following command:
apt-get install package1 package2 …

Unfortunately, we might encounter some errors while trying to install packages in Debian based distributions
When trying to install a package in Debian, you might run into some errors. This is probably due to the fact that the package is not yet finished.
Sometimes, developers spend a long time working on a package and then they release it, so you might have some errors when installing the package.
These errors can be due to poor installation or configuration of the package, which causes issues when updating or removing it.
To prevent this from happening again, try running apt-get update and/or apt-get dist-upgrade before installing any packages to make sure everything is up to date.
One such error message is “failed to fetch” followed by some archive URLs
Another error message is “failed to fetch” followed by some archive URLs. This may occur if your application is running an outdated version of Google Drive.
How to Fix It
You can fix this error by updating your application or using the –fix-missing flag. If you use the –fix-missing flag, then Google will also automatically update your application when a new version is released.

There could be multiple reasons behind this problem including network issues or a transient issue on the repository server side
When a repository is updated, the archived files are also updated. This can happen occasionally as when a repository is deleted, its archive files are also deleted.
If this problem happens often, then you might want to consider using an apt-get update or apt-get upgrade to get the latest content.
–Fix-Missing? can help you check if your content is missing or not by using its –fix option. If not, then it might be an issue on your end as to why it does not show up.
Network issues could be the reason why this happens. An individual server or network connection may lose contact with the other server or network connection and thus causes it to no longer fetch content from that source.
The best solution is usually to try again later or reboot your system and try again
Most problems are intermittent, happening sometimes and not always. If you still cannot access some documents or apps, it is probably a problem with your network or your system trying to use an up-to-date copy of the files.
The best solution is usually to try again later or reboot your system and try again.
We can say with certainty that you will eventually be successful if you keep trying – it’s called persistence!
If the network or system part is down, you can still access some documents or apps by using the utilities available on the Internet – we just need to know where to go.
