When installing ceiling fans, you will want to know the approximate brightness of the bulbs in your fan. This is important to know because there are two types of bulbs in the fan bulb circuit: low wattage and lightbulb.
Low wattage bulbs are around 25 milliwatts or less and are called Cree or K-50s. These cost less than 50 cents a bulb, making them an affordable upgrade to your room lighting. Lightbulb-style bulbs range from 60 to 80 watts and are called A19 or G19s.
Both types of bulbs require a different installation method. If you do not know which type of bulb you have, then this article does not matter! You would have to go buy one!
Summary: When installing ceiling fans, take into account which type of bulb it is so that you do not disturb the fan motor or pull out wires.
Halogen
One of the newer alternatives to LED bulbs is the halogen bulb. These are similar to LED bulbs, but have an additional coating that protects it from heat and reduces light reflected by objects around it.
Because of this, a halogen bulb can be either a true LED bulb or a replacement for an existing one. However, because of its heat protection, it cannot be used as a regular CFL or LED – only in new builds and renovations where new lighting is required.
How much savings you will see with a halogen bulb depends on your current lighting setup. If you are currently using standard CFLs or LEDs, then you will still see some savings with a replacement by a standard-ish-sized halogen bulb.
Incandescent
Incandescent bulbs were the first type of bulb to be invented. They were a solid, white light that stayed burning for a long time.
Incandescent bulbs are similar to regular lightbulbs, except they are coated with a thin layer of carbon and placed in a hollow base. This makes it stick out slightly and allows it to emit the normal light we see.
The carbon prevents electricity from flowing out when heated, which would destroy the bulb. When it is turned on, it takes this little bit of electricity that was stored up, and uses it to create some energy to operate the rest of the device.
This is similar to how an electric guitar plays and operates when someone plays enough notes on it.
Fluorescent
Fluorescent bulbs were once a rare and expensive item. Today, most homes have at least one in their electrical panel for use.
These bulbs are called fluorescent and can be regular or special lighting types. These do not contain typical bulb fuel such as oil or kerosene, so they do not need to be lit and maintained as similarly colored lamps do.
Their main draw is that they produce a ray of light that travels through the glass panes of your electrical circuit, hits the air conditioner unit, and reflects back to the bulb to produce its light.
This light is called a fluorescent beam of energy.
Sunlight
About one third of the power needed to light a bulb comes from sunlight. This is due to the reflection of sunlight off the glass bulb and onto the inside of the socket.
The rest of the power needed to light a bulb comes from technology such as electronic ballast ( Vehicular Lighting System ) or an AC/DC adapter (rechargeable, non-ballast type).
The amount of technology required to power a light depends on whether it is a fluorescent, compact fluorescent, or regular incandescent bulb.
Fluorescent bulbs require more technology than incandescent bulbs do because they require slightly more space between them when wiring up an electrical system.
Candlelight
The term candlelight has several different meanings. Some call it that, others do not. Either way, it is a name for a lighting style where the bulb is the source of light.
The other meanings of candlelight are: a time to reflect or enjoy in solitude; a period of time during which something lasts; and a period of time during which something is active or productive.
This article is about the why and how of candlelight, so let’s start there.
How Does It Work?
The simplest way to use candlelight is as an addition to another light source. This can be done in pairs or groups, depending on what you are lighting and what else is present.
For example, pair one flickering lamp with one steady lamp to create a double-folded room with two lights inside it. Or three lamps can be placed side by side for triple the light output!
These production systems are common among designers and artists, who use them in their work to access more light and productivity.
Flashlight
Some bulbs are flashlights, meaning they can be used as a flashlight. This includes bulbs that are equal in brightness to the bulbous portion of an LED bulb.
The difference is that these bulbs are not miniature LEDs, but traditional solar cells. These solar cells are larger and have a rounded end, making them look like an LED.
These larger solar cells require more power to maintain their brightness, so they are usually shipped in pairs or even triples to ensure one bulb maintains the same brightness as the other two. This is why some stores may have three identical LED bulb pairs!
Both ways of having an equal-brightness LED bulb can be useful: If you do not want to buy two or two dozen identical LEDs, you can choose one of these bailout hel lamps.
Lantern
A lantern bulb is slightly brighter than an Añolight or Elta Bulb. A lower brightness bulb is equal to a higher brightness bulb. This is not true for Añolights and Eltas, which are slightly brighter than a regular bulb.
Laon and Ceta bulbs are slightly less powerful than a regular bulb. However, they are equal in brightness to an ordinary 30-watt lightbulb! So, if you wanted a little bit of light, this would be an adequate replacement.
Bulb lighting kit
There are two types of bulbs: low intensity, or CFLs, and high intensity, or LED. When it comes to the brightness of the light they give, neither has an exact place in the scale.
Most companies use a medium or soft daylight-balanced bulb for their lighting kits, which is about right for a typical household. If you have a very bright room, a very dark room, or want more neutral lighting, then use an LED bulb with a higher wattage.
If you want less hot light and more coverage then go with a low intensity bulb like a CFL. If you want both then buy both!
