Ladybug 2 is the next generation of Ladybug. It was released in December 2018 and has a new body design, longer legs, and a more advanced sense system.
Its close relative, Ladybug 1, was released in November 2017 and had shorter legs and a different sense system. This created some confusion initially, as people believed 2 was a preview of what was to come.
This wasn’t the case for very long, though. People soon realized that 2 had nothing but great things to offer them. It was clear from the start that this new version would be different from its predecessor in some way, making it more challenging to create a same-sized platform as 2.

Find the difference in distance between both ladybugs
Ladybug 2 has a higher linear speed than Ladybug 1. This value is the number of steps that the bug takes on a floor during a day of fighting. Ladybug 2 has a ratio of 0.98 to 1.
This makes it take more time for Ladybug 2 to fight and move around compared to Ladybug 1. However, this is not much of an issue in battle because LadyBug 2 can fly fast enough to keep up her momentum while fighting.
While there are no hard numbers to help figure out how long it will take for one unit to fight and move around on its own, there are some tips that can help ease the transition for new units.
Divide the difference in distance by the time difference
When Ladybug 2 and 1 crossed paths, the time difference gave 1 a longer time to arrive. This was the case when they first met in the series, but also when they were apart in later episodes.
This happens a lot in storytelling. When characters are far away, we leave them longer to arrive at their destination by putting off their story announcement for a while. We wait for them to arrive, and when they do, we enjoy their arrival more.
We can control this timing even though we are not following the characters’ stories yet. The network can choose to put off an episode’s release until after national broadcast ratings have been rated and available.
Use algebra to find the ratio of linear speeds
Ladybug 2 has a linear speed of 6, while Ladybug 1 has a linear speed of 5. Using the term linear speed, we can say that Ladybug 2 has a sixfold increase in speed than Ladybug 1.
Therefore, it makes sense to use the sixfold increase in speed to determine the ratio of linear speeds. As mentioned earlier, Ladybug 1 and Ladybug 2 are identical twins. They have identical bodies and brains, so when one reaches adulthood, the other does too.

Ladybug 2 is a fun and functional project for kids to tackle. It was easy to follow the steps and create your own Ladybug 2 models!
Ladybug 2 features a simple, linear speed that young children can understand. This model is perfect for introducing basic engineering concepts such as ball bearings, electromagnets, and gears.
As the children grow older, they can move onto more advanced engineering concepts like calculations and creation of plans. This model allows young students to learn how to build with materials in an easy way.
The model only uses one piece of material which is a relief for parents who have to watch their kids use it.
What did you find difficult about this project?
The hardest part of this project was deciding on the ratio of Ladybug 2 to Ladybug 1. We wanted to make sure that our first class had enough time to prepare students for the second class, so we set a very low ratio for the first class.
Ladybug 2 is much larger than Ladybug 1 and has more features. Additionally, some students may not be familiar with some of these features from previous lessons. Students may not understand what a particular feature means or why it is important.
This was a challenge because we had to find something new each day to teach! Fortunately, we kept track of all our changes on our computer and gave each student a quick reminder the next day.
Would you do this project again?
Certainly! Ladybug 2 is a great beginner bug to start doing on your own. It has a very clear and easy-to-follow project schedule, and you can start making your bugs at any point.
Some people may feel overwhelmed by the number of steps required to complete this project, however. With only five days to build it and release it, some may feel obligated to hurry up the process.
Though this project is fun to make, some people may not enjoy turning the clock hands into beaded critters and hearing the satisfying click as they activate. Once they see how quick and easy this project is, they may feel compelled to do it again.
