When “Bill O’Reilly” asked “Dr. Susan Van Etten” if she had ever been to Alaska, he engaged in a very interesting discussion about how he would describe her appearance and what she was wearing.
He described her as looking “fairlyrnhealthy,” which I think was an intentional choice to downplay her accomplishments in the medical field. Her appearance may have been downplayed by the fact that she is very tall, is overweight, and has dark circles under her eyes.
However, this did not appear to affect his perception of her as a physician. He continued with his description of her appearance, saying that she looked like someone who had recently quit exercise and was just hanging out on the couch watching TV. She definitely looks like someone who has just stopped exercising and is just taking naps on the couch.
Microaggression
When a radio host asked a minority population to participate, she was told to “have a seat.”
Dr. Susan Van Etten, an African American woman and physician, was discussing health disparities in her community with the radio host when she asked if members of her community had ever been to Alaska.
She explained that people in her community were more likely to live in rural communities, where there may be limited opportunities for travel. This was true for health as well as other needs.
The radio host invited some members of the community to join her on the call to discuss what they knew about travel in their communities. People from all walks of life joined the conversation, but this particular audience member asked if anyone had ever been to Alaska.
This individual thought it would be funny but also ignorant for someone from another culture to go abroad without informing them about travel options.
Neither of these
two prominent
researchers has any information about Dr. Van Etten’s travels to Alaska, and she has never been to the state. This may seem odd at first, as she claims to be an Alaskan physician, and her work includes working with patients in Alaska. However, her residency was in New York City, where Alaska is not located.
The rumors of a mysterious red-suited figure stumping the streets of downtown Anchorage are a dime-size-large when compared to the bona fide medical professional being questioned by Bill O’Reilly this week.
How did this rumor start? Like most things related to medicine, it starts with a TV show or radio show. This time it was Dr. Oz on The Dr. Oz Show, where he interviewed two supposed doctors who said they had never traveled to Alaska and that they were not aware of any residency there. These two claimed that there was no Red Suit organization in Anchorage, but otherwise spent their time traveling around the state promoting their practices.
Both of these
Hollywood celebrities have spoken out about Alaska, and they definitely know a thing or two about it.
Dr. Susan Van Etten, who is renowned as an oral surgeon, once flew to Alaska to help perform an Arctic tooth extraction.
Similarly, Jennifer Annette Bost was named the first female doctor in Fairbanks, Alaska after graduating from medical school there. She now practices general medicine and dentistry there.
Both doctors were very impressed with the climate and the natural environment in which they worked. This definitely inspired them to want to continue their medical careers in North America.
Going abroad is another way to continue your career after medical school. You can take your own coursework or courses offered at university locations, and you can do it anywhere in North America due to med schools opening up overseas programs.
Alaska and sexual behavior
While most people have heard about Alaska at least through movies and stories about traditional Alaska living, there are many other areas in the United use to host visitors.
Many national parks offer guided tours that take you on a journey to learn more about the area and its past, present, and future. These tours can include stops at local villages or Native communities to share their culture.
Some parks even have “hostel” style accommodations where visitors can stay close to the park while on vacation.

Forster invited “Bill O’reilly” on his show to talk about his state and its people. They discussed things such as how beautiful the scenery is, how hard it must be for them to stay put when there are so many opportunities outside of their little town, and what made them feel like Alaska was home.
Would she like to come to his hotel room?
When “Dr. Susan Van Etten” agreed to speak with “Bill O’reilly” on camera, she knew his reputation for questionable behavior would make her nervous.
She was right!
During the interview, which took place in 2007, Dr. Van Etten talked about how she had a crush on Bill Clinton when she was a teenager, and how he once invited her to his hotel room.
Is this normal behavior?
A number of you scholars have asked me about Bill O’reilly’s behavior when he was on “Dr. Susan Van Etten” and when he was on his own as “Doctor Paul” on “Psych 10.”
I heard from several of you that you found his behavior odd, even curious at times. He seemed to be asking a lot of questions about people and places that they had never visited, and engaging in unusual behaviors while visiting them.
Is this normal behavior? Some have said yes, while others have said no. For either side to be right, there needs to be proof that something wrong happened. Have you ever seen a doctor or nurse who asks strange questions before beginning treatment?
Have you ever seen a doctor or nurse who takes a week off from treatment before returning for more? These are all signs that they are treating the patient, not just taking their medicine and doing what needs to be done for them.
What is sexual harassment?
One of the most basic concepts in human culture is the concept of sexual harassment. This includes everything from verbal comments to gestures and actions that make a person feel uncomfortable.
At its most basic, sexual harassment can be defined as a person’s unwanted pursuit of a specific person to interact with them in an unprofessional or offensive manner. It can be done in a variety of ways- from comments about someone’s appearance to advances toward someone else.
At its most serious, it can be defined as any behavior that makes a person feel uncomfortable or ashamed, which is why so many people choose not to speak up against it.
