Time is one of the most valuable resources we have. We spend it in Quiet Moments, Active Moments, and Charged Moments. We are more active in day-to-day life than we realize.
Many activities, including work time and personal time, are categorized as time. This can be problematic for those who value their time more highly.
Type-1 marketers use time to classify time use into empty time, occupied time, and charged time. The purpose of this article is to discuss which types of Time Users a marketer should classify into different groups based on different needs and characteristics.
Snapshot time
One type of time use is called snapshot time. This type of time use occurs when people take a quick look at something, then quickly move on to the next thing.
Snapshot time is typically brief, lasting only a few seconds. People in this category may also use the term glance time.
This type of time use does not usually involve planning or scheduled activities. For example, not knowing what you will be doing before you leave home for the day can be one instance of snapshot time.
While both types of Time Use Classify Time feature people as either morning or evening users, snapshots can shift between morning and evening with no changes to schedule or used activities.
Snapping times can add additional stress to an already stressed-out schedule. Because they are looking at only a few seconds of each hour, they may also overschedule their days.
Memory time
There is a third type of time that marketers use to classify time use. This type of time is called memory time. Marketers use this type of time to assign tasks to people and groups.
For example, a group may be assigned the task of finding the best restaurant in town. They split into two groups and meet at different times to explore each meeting hour: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
This is called assignment time, or how much people spend on a typical day. It can be very low-profile or non-specific, like going to the gym for an hour every day.
Event time
Event time is a broad term that designers use to classify time use. Event time includes things like meetings, events, and activities that are scheduled.
Event time is one of the most commonly used timescales by designers. Event times are organized, marked off deadlines and preparedness plans.
Event times can be great for branding, because you have an established way of classifying time. People know what events they should be present for, and they know how much time they should spend on each event.
The downside to event times is that people have very little control over the length of their event time.
Periodic time
Periodic time classification is one of the earliest time classification schemes invented. It was developed in order to separate time into non-periodic and periodic time.
Periodic time was created when a person spends a short amount of time doing a specific task, such as completing a shopping online transaction or taking out the trash. During this short amount of time, the person is classified as being on a schedule.

Semantic time
There is a term for time that is not semantic. This type of time is legal time. Lawyer time is different from other time due to the fact that it is legally-defined time.
Lawyers use legal time to classify and mark off specific amounts of time that must be spent on a project. This type of time has no real use for things like classes, projects, or even groups of work. It is only used by lawyers when they need to identify how much time they have to complete a project.
There are also times when something does not need to be done, but there is a law prohibiting people from wasting money on an empty bill. This type of bill can remain in operation for years because people forget about it at some point.
These types of bills are called legal summonses and court orders. They are filed with the court, indicating what type of work needs to be done.
Sequential time
Sequential time is a time use classification that marketers use to classify time use. This type of time classification is used when people spend a lot of time in a specific amount of time.
For example, buying something and then doing something else for an hour or two before you start your day is sequential time classification. Marketers use this to categorize how people spend their time during the week.
While paying extra money for sequential time can make people feel like they are getting what they want, it is one of the most consciousness-raising types of marketing. People are more likely to say yes to things that cost them more than cheaper ones do not mean that marketers do not know what they are talking about!
There are many ways marketers classify times using sequential times. Some of these include paid work done on someone’s behalf of the company, paid work done on someone’s behalf without the company’s involvement, and unpaid work done on someone’s behalf without their knowledge.
Simultaneous time
Parallel time is typically grouped together as simultaneous time. This type of time use can be vertical or horizontal, in that people can allocate time to both activities.
Horizontal parallel times include work-life balance, studying-work, and hobbies-schooling. The number of hours spent on each activity is not necessarily equal, and even if it was, the overall amount of time spent on a given activity should remain consistent.
For example, while studying for a class you might spend part of your time in the library and other parts of your apartment studying for the class. Your overall study time would not change regardless of where you spent it—in your home or in person with peers to study.
You might also spend separate parts of your day in bed or in a study before school or during school to take care of personal affairs or studies.
Continuous time
One type of time use is continuous time. This can be short term or long term. Short term continuous time refers to times when someone spends the duration of a day, week, or month always being in a state of preparing, planning, and performing an activity.
Long term continuous time refers to times when someone spends the duration of a year preparing, planning, and performing an activity.
In this type of time use, people are not necessarily spending their entire time in a setting that is actively working on something. They may be spending their entire time getting things done.
This can be short or long-term depending on what goals are being met. For example, short-term goal keeping would be having the thing completed by a deadline while long-term goal keeping would be having the person finished the task with no additional effort required.
