Discord is a chat app primarily used by gamers. It has around 200 million users, so it’s a pretty popular app. It has many features that make it useful for gamers, including the ability to create chat groups, talk in private one-on-one chats, and create different chat ‘channels’ for different topics.
It also has several features that make it useful for gamers. These include the ability to add bots that provide information on games, ping functions that notify you of things, and voice channels where you can all talk through the app together.
Because it is so widely used among the gaming community, there are lots of problems with discord abuse. People often get hacked and have their accounts disabled due to this.
If you spend a lot of time on your phone, it may be tempting to just keep your account enabled all the time so you do not have to keep logging in and out.
Disrespectful behavior
Disrespectful behavior towards anyone is not acceptable.
Advertising
Another reason why Discord accounts can be disabled is due to advertising. Discord has very strict rules when it comes to advertising. You may not advertise any third-party products or services, such as other chat apps, music services, or gaming platforms.
You may not use a bot or account created by you or someone else to post unwanted messages. This includes promoting your channel, server, or profile on Discord.
The only exception to the above rules is if you have written permission from Discord Inc. itself. They do not allow ads on their platform, so this exception is very strict.
Discord takes advertising very seriously and will disable accounts that violate these rules. If you are a server administrator and you notice people posting unwanted messages on your server, report them using the reporting feature and remove them!
Do not take matters into your own hands by banning them, as this may result in your account being disabled.
Trolls
Trolls are people who engage in behaviors specifically to provoke a reaction. Most of the time, this reaction is anger and frustration.
While some trolls just do it for fun, others have a deeper motive. Some trolls are paid to troll and promote certain products or agendas via social media platforms.
Since social media is a big part of marketing these days, some companies pay people to troll on their behalf to bring down their reputation. It is a very sad thing, but true!
With the growth of Discord servers, there has been an increase in troll activity. Many Discord servers have enforce strict rules and ban straight away which can deter these people. However, they may be coming to your server to stir up trouble!
It is very important to keep an eye out for these people so they do not continue to harm your server or members.
Harassment
Harassment is also a reason why accounts are disabled. If someone reports you for harassing them, your account can be restricted or disabled entirely.
Discord takes harassment very seriously, and they want everyone to have a good time while using their service. So, if you receive a chat restriction or account disablement, it isn’t because they don’t appreciate you as a user – it’s so other users can enjoy the service as well!
It can be hard to determine what counts as harassment, but here are some guidelines:
Avoid using aggressive or vulgar language toward others; this includes name-calling, threatening language, and/or explicit verbal abuse.
Avoid spamming messages to individual people or groups of people; try to address your messages to the entire channel or group.
Try your best not to engage in targeted harassment (e.g., do not target one person for an entire conversation).
Inciting violence
While most people view Discord as a friendly and non-violent chat service, the platform has rules in place to prevent violence.
Discord has a clause against “inciting violence, harassment, or self-defeating behavior.” This is clearly defined in their Community Guidelines.
According to the guidelines, this includes “promoting extremist ideologies” and “releasing or encouraging the distribution of personal information with the intent to incite physical violence against that individual.”
This is an important one as it clearly defines that releasing personal information with the intent to incite physical violence is not allowed and will result in a ban. This is very important as we have seen many instances of this in recent times.
While it is unfortunate that this had to be put into place, it is for the better of everyone involved.
Violating the site’s code of conduct
If you engage in account abuse, spam, or distribution of copyrighted content on Discord, the site has the right to disable your account.
Discord has a code of conduct that clearly states what is and is not allowed. If you violate any of these rules, your account can be disabled.
Under the Conduct section of the Code of Conduct page, it states that you cannot use discriminatory or harassing behavior or content, violate copyright law, or use inappropriate and/or offensive language.
This is also clearly stated in the Terms of Service. If you violate any of these terms, your account can be disabled.
If you are unsure if something is considered inappropriate or offensive language, then it is best to avoid it just to be safe. You do not want to risk having your account disabled because you used inappropriate language.
Disrupting the functionality of the site
While most of the reasons mentioned above result in a limited account, there is one that results in an account being disabled.
If a Discord user consistently disrupts the functionality of the site by abusing features or otherwise breaking the rules, their account can be permanently disabled. This includes creating new accounts to circumvent a disablement!
Discord takes the safety of its users seriously, and will take necessary action to ensure that. You can read more about this type of action here.
This action is very rare, and only taken after extensive investigation by Discord staff. If you have received this message, do not create another account – it will be disabled as well!
Remember: Don’t try to undermine the site or other users – it will only end badly for you.
Maliciously registering users with bad intentions
One of the reasons your account can be disabled is if you register users to your account with bad intentions. This includes creating accounts to sell on sites like eBay or for promotional purposes.
Discord has very strict rules when it comes to spam and promoting accounts. If a user reports an account for spam, Discord will investigate and take appropriate actions depending on the outcome of the investigation.
If an account is registered with the intention to promote another account, then both accounts will likely be suspended due to violation of the rules against spam.
Unfortunately, Discord does not offer any sort of refund for subscription payments made through their website. This means that if you pay for a subscription using PayPal or a credit card, and you end up giving the access to someone else, there is no way to get your money back.
