We’ll be going through all of the old notification styles that have been removed from the iPhone, why they were removed, and what option you have now to get them back.
With iOS 12, there are no longer any settings for the three most popular notification style choices: badge, dots, and clear background with color.
If you want to see how these look, you will need to use an app or website that has access to the web interface where you can test out your notifications. Most people use it for social media apps like Facebook and Twitter, but you can also use Gmail, Slack, or other apps as a platform.
Luckily, there is a way to get this feature back! It’s called Notification Privacy Settings and it is in the Settings -> Privacy page under “Notification Apps.”
You can choose which apps can show notifications, set up rule sets based on app type, and add extra detail such as time ranges and types of messages (for example, only new emails).
Your phone has crashed
If you suddenly notice that your iPhone is not responding when you turn it on or use it, then there are several possible causes. It could be due to a slow Wi-Fi connection, so try switching to a faster one before trying to restore or reset the device.
It could also be because your iCloud account was compromised, which would erase all of your data including the phone. This is very common for someone else to access your email, pay accounts, and/or do a password refresh.
If you have forgotten your Apple credentials, you can create new ones using iOS Device Settings -> Accounts & Tap “Forgot Password” under My Profile. Then, enter your eMail address and an Email Message will be sent with instructions on how to retrieve your login information!
Another possibility is that the phone ran out of battery energy, making it unable to connect to wireless networks and function normally. Make sure your phone is fully charged and check whether it had some sort of trouble sleeping before this happened.
You need to restore your phone
If you suddenly notice that old notifications have disappeared, you need to do two things immediately: restore your device and update your iPhone software.
The first thing is restoring your phone. This will bring back all of your data including apps, photos, videos and messages. It may also fix any settings or files that are missing due to iOS upgrading itself.
You can choose to do this manually or quickly via Settings > General > Reset -> Refresh. Make sure to backup all important information before doing either!
After that, download the latest version of the Apple mobile operating system by clicking here.
Your battery is low
Have you ever noticed that your phone seems to run out of power all of a sudden? You check the battery, and it’s totally full!
Then suddenly, everything becomes slow and unresponsive. That is when your phone makes people complain about how bad of a smartphone user you are because there was no indication that something was wrong until it crashed.
A new feature in iOS 11 allows for “old-style” notifications. This means instead of having every notification displayed as a list, or an icon with some details under it, only one style of notification exists – a body and a button.
This changes depending on what kind of app sent the notification. For example, if someone texts you, only their text will show up in the old style notification while a dot and short message will be used for calls and messages, respectively.
If this article made you want to upgrade to the latest version of iOS immediately, then do so now!
By downloading the beta software and performing the settings change mentioned above, you can enjoy this feature easily. Let us look at some ways to get rid of those annoying popup notifications.
There are too many notifications
We have hit a wall as far as having enough space to show all of your notification updates. Due to this, some apps now offer an option to see past notifications in a section called “See old notifications”.
This feature is typically found in social media applications. For example, when you login to Facebook it keeps track of all of the notifications you received while you were not logged into the app. You can access these older notifications by going through this menu.
You will need to navigate away from the application before using this feature, otherwise your account could be compromised. This is especially important if you ever re-open the app or use the app for other functions.
You should prioritize your notifications
With all of the apps you use, there’s usually one that comes along to be top dog. For example, if you like listening to music, then Spotify is probably your favorite app.
With iOS 11, people have noticed that not everyone seems to like using this app as much as they did before. It may be because some users don’t know how to manage their notification settings or even which apps have notifications enabled by default.
It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed with the amount of notifications in your phone, but it doesn’t mean those messages are actionable. If you find yourself constantly checking Facebook, for instance, try giving more focus to these apps by enabling less intrusive alerts.
You can also add reminder alerts to apps so that they send you an alert when someone replies to a message, shares something, or comments on a photo you’ve tagged.
Tell your friends that you see them
If you notice that your old notification styles have been replaced with new ones, it’s probably because Apple redesigned the system to make room for all of the features they added in iOS 9.
The good news is that you can still use the same trick we mentioned above to access and customize those settings! Simply go to Settings > General > Notification Center, and then choose “Show All Items.”
You will now be able to toggle between and browse through every feature available in the app.
Keep your phone charged
If you still can’t seem to find that old notification, then make sure your device is fully charged! The older notifications may be hiding in the background or even been overwritten by new ones.
If it seems like there are never any empty slots, then make sure your device is not running low on battery power. This could cause the app to not have enough juice to show the notification.
Update your software
There are several ways to access old notifications you may have missed. Some apps allow you to view past messages, calls, or e-mails as stickers that can be attached to an existing chat, conversation, or email thread.
You can also check Gmail’s archive mode which allows you to go through your inbox in order of received time so you don’t miss anything.
And finally, you can always use the iOS Device Settings menu to look at older data.
